Our San Diego's Pacific Rocky Shores Trip (San Diego Bird Festival) took us to the Oceanside Harbor on Friday afternoon, March 6, 2009. This Double-crested Cormorant was sitting on the walkway. The Double-crested Cormorant we photographed is a western breeding adult that is sporting two white tuffs on either side of its head extending behind its eyes (tuffs are black and less conspicuous in eastern birds). The bird's eyes are a bright turquoise demonstrating just how beautiful and intriguing this species is. It was a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the low 70's.
